Would The Apple Iphone Connect To The Internetwith A Router Signal?

Would the iPhone work using a wireless signal (My plan didnt give me internet, but i accidently opened Safari and it asked me if i want to use the router as a wireless signal)? Or is it impossible to connect to home internet and I have to pay for the 3G internet?
