Help With Iphone 3g! 10 Points Please?

my phone was plugged into my wall charger when i got a call. i unplugged it and tried to answer my call but it wouldn’t, and just locked itself up. so then i pressed the home button to unlock it and put in my code, but when i pressed in number’s, they didn’t show up as dots or anything. it won’t even let me do an emergency call to phone apple. i just press the button and it reacts and knows i pressed it, but won’t do anything. i also cannot turn it off, as it is locked up.
does anyone know an alternate way to turn off my iphone 3g? or has anyone had the same problem?
PLEASE HELP. 10 POINTS :(
