Where Can I Download Tv Shows Onto My Computer To Watch In My Vlc Media Player?

I have just downloaded the VLC media player, I currently have a mac as well. Where do i download tv shows and programs? I don’t just want to watch them online on a pop out window. I would like to download them onto my computer and then put them into my VLC playlist. I’m not exactly computer savvy either, which doesn’t really help. Also, i want to be able to download a complete tv show onto my desktop, if this is possible.
